NZ Men's Development Squad Kick-Off

Hi All, 

This is an open invitation to all Male New Zealand Citizen and NZ Permanent Resident handball players who have aspirations of representing New Zealand at Senior Men's level. Note that this session is also suited to Youth and Junior players who want to know what it will take to be considered for training camps, and possible selection in national teams.

Roland van den Tillaar the Head Coach of the NZ Senior Men's team and Karl Fitzpatrick (NZHF Director of High-Performance) will be hosting a kick-off to the next campaign and outline the vision and expectations for players who wish to be considered for selection in future NZ Men's teams. 

The agenda for the meeting will cover the following topics:

  • Long term vision of the squad

  • Goals for the physical testing and benchmarks of high-level players

  • Physical training program

  • Will outline draft camp dates and structure.

  • Outline of online development sessions

  • The HLA and its importance to development and player selection.

  • Overview of upcoming tournaments (National and international)

  • Plan for how foreign based players will fit into the squad development.

  • Next steps.

21st Asian Mens Handball Championship

21st Asian Mens Handball Championship

This will be the third time New Zealand will compete at the Asian Mens Handball Championship. They were not able to participate during the 2022 tournament due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The tournament will be held in Bahrain, 11 - 25 January 2024. The competition will serve as a qualification tournament for the World Championship. The top four teams from the event will qualify for the 29th IHF Men’s Handball World Championship, scheduled to be held in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway from January 14 to February 2, 2025. New Zealand will have the chance to qualify by achieving a ranking of fifth or higher.

Exhibition Game 2023

The last hit out of the New Zealand Men's Team before they go to the 2024 Asian Handball Mens Championships. The New Zealand Men’s team will take on an invitational selection.

This will be the third time New Zealand has participated in the Asian Mens Championship. They were not able to compete in the 2022 championship due to Covid-19 restrictions. This time, the tournament will be held in Bahrain 11-25 January 2024. New Zealand is in Group B with Iran, Korea and China.
