The IHF Men’s U19 Handball World Championship is organised by the International Handball Federation is played every 2 years. The tournament was last played in 2019 with 2021 cancelled due to Covid-19.

Croatia will host the tournament, taking place from 2 to 13 August 2023. It will be held in 4 locations - Varaždin, Koprivnica, Opatija and Rijeka. New Zealand will be playing their preliminary games at Varaždin.

For the first time 32 teams will be competing with 8 groups of 4 teams. New Zealand is in Group B with Hungary, Morocco and Slovenia.
