NZHF NATIONAL CLUB TOURNAMENT A GREAT SUCCESS

Last weekend saw nine men’s teams and eight women’s team compete at the annual National Club tournament, held in Wellington.

All games were closely fought and none more so than the men’s final which went into overtime after both teams were tied at full time. We congratulate the winners and players with individual success at the tournament. Photos and details follow below.

We also thank the Wellington City Council for its generous grant towards hire of the court facilities. Also a huge thank you goes to Jun Tanlayco for his amazing support of NZ Handball through his photographic efforts!

Results:

Women’s final: Austago (a composite team from Otago University Handball Club and Australian Handball players) took out the final in a closely fought game against the Auckland Women’s team. Final score 27:23.

Men’s final: Two top Wellington clubs met in the final. Vikings HC won in a nail biter by one goal in extra time over last year’s champions, Northern Aguilas HC. Final score 28:27.

SUCCESS FOR OUR WOMEN'S JUNIOR AND YOUTH TEAMS AT IHF TROPHY

Congratulations to our Women's Junior and Youth teams, coaches and officials! We are very proud of your achievements at the Oceania IHF Trophy where you both took out a medal - 3rd place for our Junior team and 2nd place for our Youth team.
Congratulations to New Caledonia who took out the championship in both the Junior and Youth competitions.

Congratulations too, to all the other teams for the quality handball played and a big thank you to our Handball friends in New Caledonia for hosting such a successful tournament.

NZHF NATIONAL COACHING COURSES AVAILABLE STARTING THIS MONTH 

National coaching courses will start in August and continue throughout the remainder of this year.

The courses will be run by NZHF head of coaching and IHF A-licence coach Dr Eoin Murray. Thanks to New Zealand Olympic Committee National Activities Program funding the course will be FREE for anyone registered to attend. We look forward to a great turn out for these.

The first course will be a two day coaching course aimed at club and school coaches of beginner-intermediate players in Christchurch on the 24/25th of August (9am-3pm both days with South Island Shield matches taking place on Saturday directly after the course). The course will be a mix of classroom and hall based sessions and will form the basis of a new NZHF coaching structure leading to internationally recognised coaching qualifications. Similar courses will be run in Wellington and Auckland before the end of the year.

Other shorter 4 hour courses aimed at coaches of beginners (such as high school teams or PE in schools) with little prior knowledge of handball will take place around the country. If you are interested in a similar course in your area please contact nzhfcoaching@handball.org.nz.

NOTICE OF THE 2019 NZHF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Notice is given that the NZ Handball Federation AGM will be held at the ASB Sports Centre, Kilbirnie, Wellington following the conclusion of the day’s play at the NZ National Club Championships on Saturday 14 September 2019 - estimated to be approx 5.30pm.
Nominations are also sought for membership of the NZHF Executive Committee. There are vacancies as at least two of the current committee are resigning. Nominations must be made on the approved nomination form and reach the NZHF Secretary-General by email to secretary@handball.org.nz no later than 7pm Thursday, 15 August 2019. Nomination forms will be emailed to affiliated clubs, or can be requested from secretary@handball.org.nz.

A draft agenda will be made available 30 days prior to the AGM and any members may suggest changes to the proposed Annual General Meeting Agenda Items. A written notification of the suggested changes to the proposed Annual General Meeting Agenda Items must be given to the NZHF Secretary-General by email to secretary@handball.org.nz no later than 7pm Friday 30 August 2019. The final agenda and meeting arrangements will be notified on 1 September 2019.
