NATIONAL SECONDARY SCHOOLS' CHAMPIONS 2018

Congratulations to the 2018 winners of the NZ Secondary Schools Championships held in April in Wellington.  Winners of the Girls' event was Wellington East Girls' College who beat St Mary's College 16-11; and St Patrick's College Wellington who won the Boys' final edging out Cashmere High School, Christchurch 24-19 in their final.

Fairplay Awards went to Cashmere High School and Wellington Girls' College

Top Goalscorers: Wayo Whyte, Cashmere High School (overall top scorer for the tournament) and Tamara Baker, Wellington East Girls' College

Top Goalkeepers: Faith Hewitson, Wellington East Girls' College and Alex Browne, Cashmere High School.

Congratulations to Tournament MVPs Tamara Baker, Wellington East Girls'College and Danyah-Lee Chong-Nee, St Patrick's College.

IHF TROPHY 2018 CONFIRMED - NEW CALEDONIA, JUNE 2018

IHF confirms the IHF Trophy for men's Junior and Youth teams will be held in New Caledonia 10-15 June 2018. 
Junior players born in or after 1998 or and Youth players born in or after 2000, are eligible. Interested players should contact our men's Head Coach Ludo Ludovic Galliegue as soon as possible: ludovic.galliegue@yahoo.fr

The women's competition will be held in 2019 at a time and location still to be decided.

AUSTRALIAN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 24-27 MAY 2018 - ENTRIES OPEN NOW

The Australian Club Champs will be held in Geelong from 24-27 May. Entries are open to NZ Clubs.
The key dates are listed below – note entries are due by 28 March. A full tournament pack is available. Please email secretary@handball.org.nz and it will be sent to you.

• Team entry deposit $100 due 4 April
• Team entry fee (minus deposit) due 25 April
• Team list to be submitted by 1 May
• Nominated referee form by 1 May

KIWI SUCCESS AT AUSTRALIAN BEACH NATIONAL CHAMPS

Wellington Parrots took out first place at the 2018 Australian Beach National Championships just completed in Adelaide.  They won in a tight final against Melbourne Knicks 16-12; 17-16.

Congratulations to Wellington's Nicholas Shields who was named top scorer for the tournament and MVP.

The Wellington Parrots Women took out third place in their competition.

The Nationals were held in conjunction with the Oceania Beach Handball Champs.  Congratulations to Australia who took out both the men's and women's events.  They will now represent Oceania at the World Championships.

CALLING FOR EOIs - MEN JUNIOR U21 & YOUTH U18 PLAYERS AND INTERESTED COACHES/MANAGERS FOR BOTH AGE GROUP TEAMS

2018 is an IHF trophy year for men. This year will provide opportunity for both the Junior and Youth age groups.  Date and location of the tournament are not known yet, but we expect the tournament will happen in June 2018 outside of New Zealand.

PLAYERS:  If you are interested in trialling, we are looking for expressions of interest from male players:

- Junior (born on or after 1 January 1998)
- Youth (born on or after 1 January 2000)

If you are interested in trialling, please contact the Men’s Head Coach, Ludo Galliegue at ludovic.galliegue@yahoo.fr  First trials are expected to be held in Wellington on 14/15 April.  Players from out of Wellington who cannot attend this trial will be given another opportunity to trial.

COACHES, ASSISTANT COACHES AND MANAGERS: We are seeking official positions for both teams, so please send expressions of interest to secretary@handball.org.nz

Further information on IHF Trophy from IHF:
The IHF Trophy has been reconfigured for 2018 onwards and now includes two age categories - Junior (born on or after 1 January 1998) and Youth (born on or after 1 January 2000). The best teams from both categories will advance to the Continental Phase, to be held later this year with the winners of the IHF Trophy Intercontinental Junior Championships earning an automatic spot at the 2019 IHF Men’s Junior World Championships in Spain.

In 2019, the IHF Trophy will be for junior and youth women with the same format and qualification potential for the following years’ IHF Junior World Championships (2020).
